The analytical comparison of the characters in Peyami Safa's 'Dokuzuncu Hariciye Koğuşu' and Joanne Greenberg's 'I Never Promised You A Rose Garden Novels

The essence of this study is the analytical comparison of the life experiences reflected in the works of two authors from different geographies and bacgrounds, who at some point in their lives, experienced similar problems. The emotional accumulation resulting from the events in the authors's pasts and how this is reflected in their works through narrative tecniques. Social environment, setting and psychological states forms the foundation of the study, particularly through the character analyses in the selected novels. The study first focuses on the lives of the authors from two different cultures, and the general characteristics of those literary circles, all of which are also addressed within the scope of the work. The foundation of the study is, to establish connections of protagonists in Peyami Safa's Dokuzuncu Hariciye Koğuşu and Joanne Greenberg's I Never Promised You a Rose Garden to their authors inner worlds. Adopting the interdisciplinary framework of comparative literature, the study integrates psychoanalytic literary criticism, the biographical method and pluralistic analysis. In this regard, the psychological structures of the main characters in both novels, their internal conflicts, and their interactions with the external world have been analyzed in depth. This study aims to shed light on how personal traumas are transformed into artistic experssion and to uncover the biographical realities that lie beneath literary constructions.
