Pilots' perceptions of working conditionseffect on burnout

In the context of today's rapidly changing and developing conditions, the evaluation of working conditions in airline companies, especially in terms of their effects on the health, safety and burnout of pilots, has a different meaning. However, when the literature is examined, it is seen that the studies on the determination of the relationship with the research "The Effect of Perceptions of the Working Conditions of the Pilots on the Burnout" working in the Civil Aviation Enterprises in Turkey are remarkably limited. This research aims to determine the relationship between the working conditions of pilots working in civil airline companies operating in Turkey and their burnout. It is aimed to implement protective policies to improve the working conditions of pilots and to raise awareness of the problems experienced by pilots in the context of working conditions and burnout. According to the data of 2021 in Turkey, there are 7,054 pilots working in 10 airline companies operating in civil aviation businesses. Since the sample should be at least 364, a questionnaire was applied to 403 pilots with the simple sampling method. Questionnaire, which is a quantitative data collection technique, was used to determine the demographic characteristics of the pilots included in the scope of this research, and scales, which are qualitative data collection techniques, were used to determine the pilots' perception of working conditions and burnout. A mixed method, in which qualitative and quantitative data collection techniques are used together, was used in the research. The "Pilots' Perception of Working Conditions Scale" (PSPSS) developed by the researcher and his advisor was used to collect the research data to determine the perception of the working conditions of the pilots. "Maslach Burnout Scale" was used to determine the burnout of pilots. Together with the questionnaire developed by the researcher, Pilots' Perception of Working Conditions Scale and Maslach Burnout Scale were applied to the pilots in the sample. As a result, it is thought that the findings obtained from the research will guide the implementation of policies and practices aimed at taking measures to reduce burnout in pilots, improving the working conditions of pilots and increasing their quality of life.
