Abstract (EN)

Raphanus sativus L. is a plant belongs to the family of Brassicaceae. It has been reported that the radish plant has been used to prevent and to treat the gallstones, hepatitis, dyspepsy and various stomach disorders in traditional medicine. There are very few some studies related to effects of the various types and parts of the radish plant on health or their antioxidant activities. Our aim in this study is to investigate the antioxidant capacities of the roots and seeds of radish plants and except this, is to emphasize its various benefits on health. It is to compile studies done on this subject and then is to guide those who plan to study on this subject. In our study, we investigated the extractions prepared by different methods of the seed and roots of "the Raphanus sativus L. var. niger (black radish), Raphanus sativus L. var. longipinnatus (white radish) and Raphanus sativus L. var. radicula (red radish)" plants and their sap in terms of antioxidant activity potentials. For this purpose, we prepared the methanol extracts of our seed samples with methods like ultrasonic bath and soxhlet extraction. We macerated some of the roots with methanol and prepared the methanol extracts; we squeezed the other parts and extracted the sap. We determined the free radical scavenging effect of plant extracts and standard material by using DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) free radical. We diluted the extracts with methanol and prepared appropriate concentrations of extracts for antioxidant activity. We used L-Ascorbic Acid as standard. We calculated percent inhibition and EC50 values of the extracts. We compared the results with each other. Keywords: variations of Raphanus sativus; radish root; radish seed; antioxidant activity; DPPH
