Abstract (EN)
Plantar fascia(PF) is a fibrous sheath on the sole of foot and supports the londitudinal arch of the foot.Plantar Fasciitis (PFs) is the most common cause of heel pain. Etiology of PFs is unknown. The disorder is seen freguently in athlets, military personel and individuals with sedantary lifestyles. Important risk factors for PFs is obesity, abnormal longitudinal arch, limited ankle dorsiflexion, long time weight-bearing, thickness and loss of elasticity of the heel fat-pad.In our study; we investigated the relationship between the PFs and age, job, BMI, longitudinal arch, thickness of heel fat-pad. In this study, 50 cases ( 29 women, 21 men ) with PFs were investigated. According to the job; 18 cases were house wifes, 9 were retireds, 8 were labours, 6 were officials, 4 were teachers, 4 were university students and 1 was driver. The average height of patients were 167,26 cm (range 150?179 cm), average weight of patiens were 80,46 kg (range 55-110 kg), average BMI were 28,72 (range 19,04-39,14). The patiens were accepted over-weight (33 patiens, 21 women, 12 men) whose BMI?s were over 27.The average thickness of heel fat-pad of the symptomatic feet were 19,45 mm (range 12-29 mm), average thickness of heel fat-pad of the asymptomatic feetwere 19,94 mm (range 13-29 mm). Thickness of heel fat-pad of the symptomatic feet were reduced about 0,49 mm (p<0.05).The medial arch angle of the symptomatic feet were average 122,56º (range 107-142º) and asymptomatic feet were 120,60º (range 108-140º) (p>0.05).As a result; obesity, changes of thickness and elasticity of heel fat-pad, standing for a long time and sedantary lifestyle is effective on forming of PFs, but changing of the medial arch angle is no effect of PFs.Key words: Plantar fascia, Plantar fasciitis, Obesity, Medial arch angle, Heel fad-pad
