Abstract (EN)

In this thesis named ?Subjective Approaches to Image in Plastic Arts?, the different attitudes wrapped up by image itself have been investigated in the direction of expressive approaches peculiar to certain artists from different epochs . The first chapter of the thesis titled `The Formation of Signs? deals with the connection between language and sign, the place of the signs in human life, their functions in different linguistic structures and the concept of `artistic sign? under the scope of visual semiology. Apart from the common conventional functions of the signs in daily life, the code systems of the artistic signs special to artist?s attitude and his work claim a mode of dissimilar perception and evaluation due to their uniquenesses. On the visual plane, such elements as mark, symbol, emblem and image which can be counted as `artistic sign? have some specific functions that establish the inner entirety of the work, and in this way become vital to it. It may be said that each visual image which gets a meaning according to the socio-cultural structure in which the artist lives and to special circumstances in which his work is created represents a persuasive expression like the other kinds of image. Thus, it becomes a significant document which brings forward the communicative functions of original linguistic structures on the social plane. It will also be suitable to perceive the imaginary structure of the work in the direction of the art?s own criteria. In the course of the artistic creation, the reflection of the emotions on the work as images bearing expressive features is actually a result of the re-transformation of marks and signs. Such expressions as poem, fair tale, painting, sculpture and music are the complex of the signs transformed certain linguistic structure and finally are our sensorial perceptions.
