Abstract (EN)
In the pre-Platonic Greek apprehension centred on "epos" and "theogonia," "daimōn," appears as an entity with a feature of "theios" between "theos" and "anthrōpos." Later thinkers, who is partly a continuation and partly a renewal of this apprehension, preserving the "theios" nature, a function is attributed to "daimōn," e.g. within the framework of dealing the "ēthos" in Heraclitus and conveying the journey of "alētheia" in Parmenides. In Plato's thought, a linguistic derivative of "daimōn," namely "daimonion" is discussed at an intense network of investigations with reference to Socrates, especially in the text of Apologia, to clarify whether Socrates is connected to "theoi" or not. In Plato's Symposion, the discussion is continued on the ground of "daimōn" in order to depict the "eros" oriented aspect of the "philosophia." When his texts are examined carefully, it is determined that Plato uses without rejecting "theios" structure, this two-layered ("daimōn" and "daimonion") pattern, which is extremely close to each other in terms of meaning and function, as a strong mechane of "criticism (krinein)" in the Sophistes. The aim of our thesis is to develop a new approach to analyse Plato's texts within the framework of the mentioned pattern. We have used the term "epistemic stance" to name this approach. This approach is put forward and justified within the framework of three interconnected main arguments. Firstly, the pattern of "daimōn" and "daimonion" can be understood on the ground of "epistēmē," not on the axis of "muthos" writing, within Plato's texts and without exceeding the records and limits of these texts. Secondly, this understanding can be achieved by using a connection opened with the expression "limit notions" to the activity that makes "epistēmē" possible. Such a connection is possible with a "stance" with "distance" directed towards "logos" in terms of recognizing the limits of discernment. Finally, the main purpose of using the pattern of "daimōn" and "daimonion" on the plane of the distance travelled towards the "logos" is to establish a potentiality that will lead not only to the establishment but also to the testing of the "political structure (politeia)" in Platonic thought.
