Abstract (EN)

The study area is located at southwest Polatlı (Ankara), Central Anatolia. This investigation has been carried out in the units of the early Paleocene (Danian) Yeşilyurt Formation and late Paleocene (Tanetian) Kırkkavak Formation. Yeşilyurt Formation, which is harmony with the Upper Cretaceous (Maastrichtian) Haymana Formation, comforms to the Late Paleocene (Tanesian) Kırkkavak Formation. Ilerdian Ilgınlıkdere Formation rests conformably above the Kırkkavak Formation. In this investigation, the two straticrafic fractions of the Yeşilyurt and Kırkkavak Formations have been measured and 75 samples of these section have been collected. The samples washed in laboratory by the Knitter method and the 5 genus belonging to 16 species have been identified from abundant and well-preserved foraminifera, two biozones which suggested a Danian and two sub-biozones have been distiguished. These biozones are Parasubbotina pseudobulloides Zone (P1) in Danian and Subbotina triloculinoides sub-zone (P1b) of this zone, Globanomalina compressa-Praemurica inconstans sub-zone (P1c) and Praemurica uncinata Zone (P2). The lithological aspects of studied materials and micropaleontological data indicate a deep sea paleoenvironment. The lithological properties of the investigated units, the abundance of planktonic foraminifera and the contents of ostracod indicate a deep sea sedimentation environment.
