Abstract (EN)

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a complex metabolic disease with a chronic course that characterized with chronical anovulation and hiperandrogenism and affects 5-10% of the women in reproductive period. Oxidative stress was suggested as a potential factor in the pathophysiology of PCOS according to the studies investigating the relationship between PCOS and oxidative stres. Oxidative stress indicates the imbalance between antioxidant defence and ROS production and causes tissue damage in the end. Depending on severity of DNA damage, many cellular response are triggered such as stopping cellcycle, transition of gene expression, stimulation of DNA repair and increased programmed cell death (apoptosis). Polymorphisms of DNA repair genes might change the function of DNA repair enzymes. In our study we investigated the relationship between DNA repair genes (XRCC1 Arg399Gln, XPD Lys751Gln, APE1 Asp148Glu) polymorphism and polycystic ovary syndrome. DNA was isolated from the blood sample of 105 woman with PCOS and 90 healthy controls. Genotypes was defined with RT-PCR assay. In our study there were no significant difference between study and control groups for APE1, XRCC1 and XPD genes and alleles.
