Abstract (EN)

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common endocrinological disorders in women of reproductive age, that creates short and long term health problems (1,2,3,4). The etiology of PCOS remains unclear, but it is believed to result from complex interactions between genetic, environmental and behavioral factors (1,5). While the etiology of PCOS remains a mystery, the evidence in support of the presence of chronic low-grade inflammation in women with this syndrome is emerging (12). Interleukin 23 is a heterodimeric cytokine and IL-23R is subunit of IL-23. The IL-23R gene provides instructions for making a protein called the interleukin 23 receptor. When IL-23 binds to its receptor, it triggers a series of chemical signals inside the cell. The signals promote inflammation and help coordinate the immune system's response to foreign invaders. We've made according to literature, IL-23 like PCOS is associated with many cancers and coronary artery disease (13,14,15,16,17,18,19). The evidence in support of the presence of chronic inflammatory state in the majority of women with PCOS is incontrovertible (12,20-29,30-35). There is not any investigation about the IL-23R gene in PCOS. According to this information, the first aim of our study was to investigate the relationship betweeen PCOS and IL-23R gene Arg381Gln polymorphism. We compared IL-23R gene Arg381Gln polymorphism. genotypes and allele frequencies in 96 women with PCOS and 111 healthy subjects comparable for age and body mass index (BMI). The G allel frequency is higher in PCOS, and A allele frequency is higher in controls. In conclusion, the IL-23R gene Arg381Gln polymorphism is not associated with PCOS. But the same study, when the number of patients is increased or to be made with different populations, is expected to determine statistical significance.
