Abstract (EN)

The steric and electronic properties of N–heterocyclic carbene (NHCs) ligands are determined by the bonded nitrogen atoms to imidazole ring and the groups of 4,5– positions. NHCs with different substituents and this aspect can composing a good alternative to phosphines provide very large application field. Also nitrogen atoms of the imidazole ring or 4,5 positions by making bridged ligand can use for preparing bi- or polymetallic complexes. Synthesized homo- and hetero-, bi- or polymetallic complexes are used in asymmetric transfer hydrogenation, polymerization, olefin metathesis, hydrosilylation, coupling and tandem reactions as catalyst. This thesis deals with the 1,10–phenanthroline bridged polymetalic N-heterocyclic carbene complexes and based on three parts. An introduction to N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) chemistry, the general uses of 1,10–phenanthroline used as a ligand and the functionality of homo- and hetero- or polymetallic complexes in catalytic applications are given in the first part. In part two experimental details of the synthesis of designed ligands and complexes were explained. Part three describes characterization of NHC ligand precursors bearing 1,10–phenanthroline skeletons, salts and homo- and hetero- or polymetallic complexes and their various catalytic applications. Starting from 1,10–phenanthroline, monosubstitue ligand precursors and their Ru(II) complexes were synthesized (Ru3a-d, Ru4a-c). The second alkylation of monosubstitue ligand gave the salt (5a). These ligand precursors have possibility of two different sides to coordinate metals and using this feature mono–, bi–, polymetallic homo or heterometallic metal complexes were synthesized. All compounds were fully characterised by spectroscopic methods and were agreement with expected structures.Preliminary catalytic studies on the transfer hydrogenation using complexes (Ru3a-d, Ru4a-c) as catalysts showed that their activity clearly depends on the nature of substituents. The catalytic properties of polymetallic palladium complexes were explored in Suzuki-Miyaura and Heck C-C coupling catalytic reactions. In addition, heterobimetallic and homobimetallic complexes have been used as catalysts in tandem suzuki coupling/transfer hydrogenation and dehalogenation/transfer hydrogenation reactions.
