Özet (EN)
The aim of this study is to make contribution to exhibiting new parameters with regard to watching the long term metabolic complications of this syndrome and identifying treatment strategies accordingly by means of evaluating the relationship between PCOS and oxidative stress and insulin resistance. 32 PCOS patients diagnosed in reference to Rotterdam 2003 diagnose criterion and 25 healthy volunteers were analyzed within this scope. Physical examinations, height and weight measurements of all participants in the first three days of their menstrual periods were noted. After these examinations, the followed parameters were studied after 8 to 10 hours of fasting: fasting glucose, insulin, HbA1c, HDL cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, triglyceride, total cholesterol and malondialdehyde (MDA), peroxynitrite, 4-hydroxynonenal and nuclear factor erythroid 2 related factor 2 (NRF 2), Fetuin-A. There was no significant difference between the age and BMI of both groups. The levels of LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, triglyceride, total cholesterol were determined significantly high in the group with PCOS as against the control group. Fasting glucose, insulin, HbA1c, HOMA-IR values, which were examined toevaluate carbohydrate metabolism, were found to be significantly higher in the PCOS group. In addition, there was no difference between the groups for Fetuin A levels. MDA, 4 hydroxynonenal levels analyzed as oxidan substances in order to evaluate oxidative stress were determined significantly high in patients with PCOS as against control group. Although the levels of peroxynitritis, a type of reactive nitrogen, were determined higher in the group with PCOS as against the control group, this was not statistically significant. Results supported the relationship between PCOS metabolic problems and PCOS oxidative stress were found. Although much more studies are needed on this topic, the use of oxidant and antioxidant markers in the clinical course and shaping the treatment according to these markers may be beneficial in terms of preventing long-term complications.
