Abstract (EN)

Police organizations and their employees serve for the safety and security of the community according to the authority given by the law. Police job is naturaly hard and stressful. The quality of police work depends on officers? enjoyment and positive attidudes towards the job; success on police work relies on enjoyment and loyalty of officers; their enjoyment and loyalty is contingent on developing positive opinions and attitudes towards the job; and positive opinions and attitudes could come out only if the factors leading to negative attitudes are identified and dispelled.The main idea in this research which is named as ?A sociological Research on Attitudes of Policemen Towards Their Occupation (Kayseri sample)? is to measure and analyze the attidudes of officers towards their job through examining some selected areas of police work ( such as police training; police-public relations; police occupation and characteristics; police apparel and uniforms; and economical situation.)This research is a field work conducted on sworn officers stationed in the city of Kayseri, under the authority of Turkish National Police. The term ?sworn officer? covers all ranking and line officers who have positions in the hierarchical system of the organization. Sample group contains the whole strenghth of the Organization which is at the amount of (1962).The attidudes of officers towards their occupation vary depending on whether being a ranking or line officer and the positions occupied : It has been observed that the officers working in the special units, such as intelligence, anti-terror and anti-smuggling bureaus express more positive opinions about the occupation relative to the ones working in the regular police patrols, protection and riot control units.
