Abstract (EN)
In this study, it has been explored whether there exists any political business cycle on general government expenditure, which is considered as a fiscal indicator, in the period of elections in Turkey by applying to the political business cycle theory. In line with this purpose, the data set for the period 1999-2018 has been used and estimations are obtained by taking advantage of time series methodology. While investigating the stationary of the series with augmented Dickey-Fuller method, the long term relationship is analyzed with autoregressive distributed lag co-integration method. To the findings, general government expenditures do not increase election times in the short run, but there exists a link between variables in the long run.
