Amerika Birleşik Devletleri'nin soğuk savaş sonrası Transkafkasya politikası

After the collapse of Soviet Union, the Newly Independents States appeared in Transcaucasus. In the period between 1991 and 1996, American engagement in the region was limited by the future of Russian Federation and the nuclear weapons. These preoccupations and uncertainty of the international system cause to a priority of Russia in the American foreign affairs and a perception of Russian back-yard for Transcaucausus The US orientation started to change after the first oil deal with Azerbaijan and after that, the economic engagement of United Stated and multinational companies in the region increased steadily. Since 1996, US have started to give a different importance to Transcaucasian states at the result of several factors. The routes of exportation of oil and gas to the market, directed the American foreign policy. Even the other regional states like Turkey, Iran and Georgia are voluntary to play an active role in this matter, American administration whose decisions about Transcaucasus are under the influence of geopolitical and geostrategic conceptions, is against the options via Iran and prioritise the projects via Turkey and Georgia. It is possible to mention military engagement of US in the region next to its economical and political existence. This existence which is embodied by NATO operations, has changed dimension since the events of 9/11.
