Abstract (EN)
Only since the middle of the last century we have been intensely exploiting our vast oil reserves, which it took Mother Nature millions years to form. Therefore, current oil reserves are running out faster than new ones are being formed during our period of exploitation. This situation raises concerns that the modern civilization is at risk due to a permanent oil shock, which will befall in near future because of depletion of resources. Since 1970, the volume of new reserve discoveries has been already proving inferior to that of production. This study examines the role of Peak Oil theory in energy policy making for developing countries. In a function, which includes the importance of energy for economic development, scarcity of natural resources, alternative energy sources, increasing demand for energy from the developing world and an overview of energy policies of the chosen international organizations, it endeavors to answer if this theory influences is influential in energy policy making. The aforementioned international organizations are Organization for Petroleum Exporting Countries, World Bank and International Energy Agency.
