Application of pop-art images on mayolica ceramic surfaces

Majolica; a décor application has been transformed into art in European ceramic art history in terms of superior craftsmanship and precision and has become an attractive decor technique. During Renaissance, within the framework of the painting program the concept of painter designer replaced the decoration masters working in ceramic workshops. This decor technique is still used skillfully by ceramic artists today. Pop Art, which is tried in interdisciplinary approaches and movements, has not been included in many studies in the field of ceramics. Although the effect of Pop Art on ceramic surfaces is not used at all on the majolica decor application, it has become unique in the fields of cinema, television, cartoon, painting and sculpture in the following years and has been integrated with the branches of art. Since the unique expression of the Pop Art movement knows no boundaries, it has freed the artist in the field of thinking, working and practicing. In thesis selection; how much, how and with what purpose the Pop Art approach is used in Majolika ceramics is thought to be a worthwhile subject to research. It should be noted that the research was conducted in an interdisciplinary field of application. For this purpose, all research includes; Ceramic Art, Majolica ceramics, history of Majolica ceramics, artistic authentic Majolica ceramics applications. The transfer of the effect of Pop Art on the Majolica ceramic surfaces by using ceramic decoration techniques with colorful, decorative designs and writing forms on three-dimensional ceramic forms. In the thesis study, the application effect of Pop Art images on Majolica ceramic surfaces was researched. The thesis study consists of four parts. In the first part of the thesis, the definition and history of majolica ceramics; in the second part, oxides and coloring dyes used for decoration were discussed. In the third part, the definition and history of Pop Art, representative artists of Pop Art in the UK and the USA, Pop Art in Turkey, Turkish Pop Art artists are explained. In the fourth part, the applications of Pop Art image on Majolica ceramic surfaces and personal applications are given. Keywords: Ceramic, Majolica, Pop Art, Art
