The effect of popular music culture on classical Turkish music

This study was carried out to examine the effect of popular music culture on classical Turkish music works. In this context, the modified versions of the determined works were examined and compared with the original versions in musical aspect. 11 works, which are thought to have changed with the were analyzed on the basis of personal interpretation, maqam, tempo, instruments used (difference, diversity, number, etc.). The original notes of 11 classical Turkish music pieces examined in the research and consisting of 1 yuruk semai and 10 song forms, and the interpretation of the performers were examined via analyzed by comparison method. The ornamentation techniques, non-note performance elements, the attitude used, the style, the tempo of the work, the mode and structure of the work in 11 works were examined. These musical features were recorded with the Sibelius program by dictating the album recordings of the performers. The instruments used in the works, tempo, interpretation of the performer, the genre in which it is arranged, and the mode are shown and explained in tables. As a result of the research, It has been found out that 11 classical Turkish music works are interpreted out of classical manner and blended with popular music genres such as arabesque, pop, rock, jazz and original, and performed with a new arrangement. Non-note elements, decoration techniques and instruments used in the interpretation have caused the works to be popular and their traditional structure to change. It has been observed that there are modal changes in two of the examined works. The interpretation and arrangement of popular music genres and their performance of classical Turkish music genres have created a hybrid structure in the works.
