Analysis of the illustrated History Magazine from the original journals of popular history(1950-1956)

Illustrated History Magazine is a popular history magazine published between 1950 and 1956. The periodical has an important place in terms of gathering strong writers of the period in its editorial staff. Founded by Server R. İskit and edited by Eroğul R. İskit, the magazine is a multifaceted history publication as it includes many genres such as Ottoman History, Republican History, World History, Social History, Education, Biography, Memoirs and Culture-Art. Journalism activities from the Ottoman Empire to the present day will be discussed in general. The development process of history journalism, history journalism from the Ottoman Empire to the present day, and examples of some popular and academic journals published in the field of history will be given. The aim of the publication of Illustrated History Magazine, which was published for 84 uninterrupted issues between 1950-1956, will be analyses and researched about its purpose, publication range, formal and content features, and author staff. Analyzing and indexing periodicals published in the periodical provides an important source for historical research and is expected to contribute to a better understanding of the historical, social and cultural dynamics of the period. This study aims to explain the development process of history periodicals and the contributions of popular history periodicals to the field through an analysis of Illustrated History Periodical.
