The research of hydration development and pyhsical, chemical and mechanical proporties of portland cement and substituded fly ash cement

Many studies were conducted from past to present that depending on the protection of environmental resources, industrial wastes, cement and additive of concrete, or as a substitute for the use of material. One of the most widely used materials in this waste is fly ash.In this study, the surface interaction mechanisms of Portland cement (PC) and substituted fly ash (FA) cement were investigated. PC-FA particles electrokinetic potential (zeta potential) as well as physical, chemical, mineralogical, and mechanical properties of PC and FA were determined. Cement pastes which prepared with PC and FA 2, 7, 28, 56 and 90 days were cured. To determine mineralogical structure and development phase of these pastes during hydration at the end of 28 days, the thermal analysis (DTA and TG), fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis were made, and electron microscopy (SEM) and micro-structures were determined. Compressive strength of cement mortar samples substituted PC and FA which made experiments, were examined, the results and reasons are interpreted together with results from other analysis.As a result, while the water requirement and setting time was increased by the amount of substitution rate of FA, the amount of portlandit (Ca(OH)2) which released during hydration was decreased. In addition, FA according to the PC showed different electro-kinetic behavior and surface properties. All of these differences were affected compressive strength of mortar samples.
