The transformation of Muslim Brotherhood in the context of post-Islamism and its effects on the failure of The Arab spring revolution in Egypt

The formation of the Muslim Brotherhood, which was founded by Hassan al-Banna in 1928, may be counted as one of the major milestones in Egypt's political history. Alongside having the characteristics of a religious organization, in course of time, Muslim Brotherhood developed also a political dimension and this has increased its importance in Egypt's political life both before, during and after the Arab Spring. However, conflicts and problems caused by the internal structure and ideological transformation of the organization have made the role of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt's revolution more and more questionable. In this context, this thesis examines the transformation of the Muslim Brotherhood both before and during the Arab Spring and tries to explain the effects of Muslim Brotherhood's post-Islamist transformation on the failure of Egypt's revolution.
