Post-panoptic surveillance and electronic monitoring: Electronic clamp narratives

Surveillance has become an important phenomenon in daily life with late modernity. Many fact that consist of society like economy, polity, law, culture, family, health and social relationsh has comprise fields where surveillance is common. Because the fact that surveillance is the leading phenomenon in social life has led to the mention of a new sociability. In this study, the crime and punishment dimension of surveillance through electronic monitoring method will be discussed. The aim of the study is to reveal the social appearances of electronic monitoring. These views will be detailed with the electronic bracelet experiences of the convicts. At the same time, discourses about electronic bracelet on Twitter will be examined in order to submit social perspectives on electronic monitoring. Qualitative research method, one of the methodological paradigms, was adopted in the study. The research in the study consists of two parts. The first one consists of in-depth interviews with convicts in probation in order to present a sociological perspective to electronic bracelet punishment. The second research area consists of Twitter posts and critical discourse analysis. Therefore, the study will submit an assesment of the electronic bracelet, which of the is a limited in academic terms and new application, from the perspective of punishment, body and daily life sociology, using multidimensional data. With the data of the study, a discussion for electronic bracelet punishment, including post-panoptic surveillance, is submited. Based on the experiences of both convicts and individuals expressing an opinion about the electronic bracelet, the study will discuss the social dimensions of punishment, especially the effects of electronic monitoring on social exclusion, social stigma, family, working life, unemployment, social capital, surveillance and control on the individual.
