Özet (EN)
Investigation of Efficiency of Brisk Straight Side Lying Maneuver in the Treatment of Posterior Canal Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo The Epley maneuver used in the treatment of BPPV includes passive neck movements and therefore cannot be applied to patients with cervico-thoracic problems. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of HDYM developed for patients with cervico-thoracic problems. A hundred volunteers adults (60 female, 40 male) with PSSK-BPPV diagnosed in the study. Individuals randomly divided into two groups were evaluated as 50 individuals in HDYM group and 50 individuals in Epley maneuver group. All subjects were called weekly until complete recovery. VNG and DH tests were used diagnosis for follow-up. In addition, the subjects were evaluated before and after treatment with DHI, VADL and VAS. At the end of the first week after the maneuver, 17 (34%) patients in the HDYM group and 33 (66%) patients in the Epley maneuver group got recovered. At the end of the second week, 13 (39.4%) patients in the HDYM group and 12 (70.6%) patients in the Epley maneuver group got recovered. In total, 30 patients (60%) in the HDYM group and 45 patients (90%) in the Epley maneuver group got recovered. In the third week, Epley maneuver was applied to 20 patients who did not improve in HDYM group and 5 patients who did not improve in Epley maneuver group. A total of 5 patients did not fully recovered at the fourth week follow-up. There was a statistically significant difference between the recovery rates of the groups at the first and second week (p<0.00). There was a significant decrease in DHI, VADL and VAS scores before and after treatment pointing the effectiveness of treatment (p <0.05). It has postural limitation in the treatment of BPPV; cervico-thoracic, systemic, obesity, cardiac problems, Epley maneuver can not be applied to patients because of ease of application HDYM can be preferred. Keywords: Cervico-thoracic problem, epley maneuver, sham maneuver, vertigo
