Neuropathic Pain in Postmenopausal Osteoporosis Patients; Sleep Quality, Quality of Life and Effects on Depression Introduction: Osteoporosis (OP) is the most common metabolic bone disease in our aging world and is an increasing public health problem. It frequently causes serious clinical consequences such as pain, deformity, loss of function and fracture risk, causing significant functional impairments and adversely affecting the quality of life. Pain in osteoporosis is mainly nociceptive, if it becomes permanent, a tenderness may occur in the peripheral and central nervous system, which underscores the transition to chronic pain syndrome. In this study, our aim is to investigate the frequency of neuropathic pain in Postmenopausal Osteoporosis (OP) patients, their effects on sleep quality, quality of life, depression and the relationship between these findings. Materials and Methods:250 women with postmenopausal osteoporosis who applied to the Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation outpatient clinic of Adıyaman University Training and Research Hospital between 30/11/2019 and 30/11/2020 were included in the study. Participants between the ages of 40-75 were included in the study. The data of the study were collected using a questionnaire prepared previously by the researchers. Patient information form containing descriptive features such as sociodemographic characteristics and risk factors, European Osteoporosis Society Quality of Life Questionnaire (QUALEFFO-41), Beck Depression Scale (BDI) and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. (PUKI) answered the questionnaires. The severity of neuropathic pain was assessed using the S-LANSS (Self-administered Leeds Assessment of Neuropathic Symptoms and Signs) pain scale. Results: The mean age of the patients was 58.57 ± 7.3 years. According to the S-LANNS scale, 44.8% of the patients were accompanied by neuropathic pain. In women with postmenopausal OP, 45.2% of the patients had depression in various degrees with BDI. Sleep quality was bad in 69.6% of the patients according to the PSQI score. It was found that the mean number of births, insufficient calcium intake rates, and chronic disease rates of cases with neuropathic pain were statistically significantly higher than those without neuropathic pain. It was found that the scores of the total score and subscale scores, BDI scores, PSQI and subscales scores of the cases with neuropathic pain were statistically significantly higher than those with neuropathic pain. Conclusion: Although OP pain is generally known with a nociceptive character, a significant number of patients are accompanied by a neuropathic pain component. Neuropathic pain component in OP patients; Impaired sleep and quality of life are associated with depression.
