Distopic television series in postmodernism and identity perspective: Black Mirror example

The rapidly advancing technology after the II. World War, which was accepted as the beginning of postmodernism, has been transformed into a goal rather than a tool for people.Individuals have become a slave of technology, have been willingly or unwillingly involved in a system. Individuals who are in the existing or emerging system have started to become uniform and have to keep up with their own identities because they have to keep up with the system. People no longer behave as themselves, they began to behave like the personality expected. In the changing and developing world, dystopian-themed series of disasters, which are caused by the increasing technological dependence of people, are increasing. The aim of this study is to examine how the identity change experienced by people under the influence of postmodernism culture is handled in the television series within the framework of dystopia scenarios, which features and how the subject is presented. In this context, the sample of the study consists of six (6) sections of the "Black Mirror konu series. According to the results obtained from the investigations, with the images of cognitive alienation against the currently neglected bad effects of technology, people will be an integral whole with a technology such as robot or technology, they will move away from their own identities, an environment of insecurity among individuals will be described. In this process however it is not offered a solution for people to change in moral and humanitarian direction. Keywords: Postmodernism, identity, dystopia, television series
