Abstract (EN)

This study aims to investigate the relationship between psychological capital and occupational burnout of nurses working in public hospitals. Data were collected from nurses working in public hospitals in Istanbul. The sample of the study consisted of 246 nurses, 196 female and 50 male. Positive Psychological Capital Questionnaire, Maslach Burnout Inventory and personal information form were used as data collection tools. Descriptive, variance, correlation and regression analyzes were used to evaluate the data. In the study, negative relationship was found between the psychological capital level of nurses and burnout level. Results indicate that as age and monthly income increased, it increased in hope, self-efficacy and psychological endurance, and it had a low effect on burnout levels. It is indicated that as the total duration of professional work increases, hope, self-efficacy, psychological endurance and psychological capital, which are positive psychological capital sub-dimensions, will increase. In addition, the decrease in the sense of personal accomplishment, depersonalization and burnout levels increased as the total duration of professional work decreased. It was concluded that self-efficacy and psychological resilience would increase as the duration of the study in the hospital increased, and desensitization would increase with the decrease in the duration of the study in the hospital. Hope, self-efficacy, psychological resilience and psychological capital characteristics of extroverted nurses were found to be higher than introverted nurses. On the other hand, results showed that introverted nurses would experience more decrease in personal accomplishment, depersonalization and burnout compared to extroverted nurses. As a result of the regression analysis; it was found that satisfaction in work environment, professional competence status, decrease in personal accomplishment and total burnout level were statistically predictive.
