The levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) , vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-1 (VEGFR-1) and nuclear factor kappa B (NFkB) with the immunhistochemistry method in placentas of preeclamptic pregnancies

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study ; is to compare the immunhistochemical properties of VEGF, VEGFR-1 and NFkB in placentas of preeclamptic and uncomplicated deliveries , and to evaluate the relationship among these factors and also with preeclampsia.MATHERİALS AND METHODS: In this study a total number of 62 placentas were randomized into two groups obtained from preeclamptic ( n:32) and uncomplicated deliveries (n:30). VEGF, VEGFR-1 and NFkB were investigated with immunhistochemistry method in these placentas.RESULTS: Three Antibodies? staining intensity of placentas with preeclamptic patients was found statistically higher than control group ( VEGF ; 1.97 ± 0.90 (38.00) versus 1.23 ± 0.57 (24.57) , p = 0,001 , VEGFR-1 ; 2.00 ± 0.62 (40.03) versus 1.30 ± 0.47 (22.40), p=0,0002, NFkB ; scores 2.38 ± 0.66 (42.66) versus 1.33 ± 0.55 (19.60), (p:0,0007).VEGFR-1 and NFkB diffusiveness staining scores were statistically significanthigher in PE group ( VEGFR-1 ; 2.09 ± 0.59 (36.81 ) versus 1.67 ±0.48 (25.83) , p=0,004 , NFkB; 1,66 ± 0,65 (35,61 ) versus 1,33 ± 0,55 (27,12 ), p= 0,038 )There was no statistically significant difference in VEGF diffusiveness score ( VEGF ; 2,06 ±0,76 (33,66) versus 1,83 ± 0,65 (27,20 ) , p=0,270)CONCLUSION: We detected higher values of three antibodies? staining intensity and diffusiveness scores (except VEGF diffusiveness scores) in preeclamptic patients? placentas. These three substances which are increased in oxidative stress were found to be associated with preeclampsia. Further studies and large series are needed to clarify their spesific roles and to take part in the diagnosis and treatment of preeclampsia.KEY WORDS: VEGF, VEGFR-1 , NFkB , Placenta, Preeclampsia
