INTRODUCTION AND AIM: Motherhood is one of the most important developmental events in a woman's life. This study is conducted to investigate and compare effect of obsessive compulsive behaviors regarding infant care of mothers that have premature and mature infants on breastfeeding nursing self-efficacy and maternal satisfaction from motherhood in the postpartum period. MATERIAL AND METHOD: The descriptive, case-control, and analytical study was conducted with 175 mothers of premature infants and 175 mothers of mature infants. Descriptive Information Form, Scale for Obsessive, Compulsive Behaviors of Mothers in the Postpartum Period with regard to Baby Care, and The Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale - Short Form (BSES-SF), and The Being a Mother Scale (BaM-13) were used as data collection tools. Data were transferred to IBM SPSS Statistics 26 program to complete. RESULTS: It was observed that 61.4% of the mothers that participated in the study were in 25-34 age group. A negative statistically significant relationship was found between BSES-SF scores of mothers of premature infants and their Scale for Obsessive, Compulsive Behaviors of Mothers in the Postpartum Period with regard to Baby Care scores (r=-0.253, p=0.001). no statistically significant relationship was found between these scales in mothers of mature infants (r=-0.100, p=0.190). A negative statistically significant relationship was found between BSES-SF and BaM-13 scores of mothers of premature and mature infants (in turns r=-0.343, p=0.000), (-0.343, p=0.000). A positive statistically significant relationship was found between Scale for Obsessive, Compulsive Behaviors of Mothers in the Postpartum Period with regard to Baby Care scores and BaM-13 scores of mothers of premature and mature infants (in turns r=0.311, p=0.000; r=0.206, p=0.006). CONCLUSION: No difference was found between Scale for Obsessive, Compulsive Behaviors of Mothers in the Postpartum Period with regard to Baby Care scores of mothers of premature and mature infants (t=1.234; p=0.218). A statistically significant difference was found between their BSES-SF scale scores (t=-5.147; p=0.000). A statistically significant difference was found between BaM-13 scores of mothers of premature and mature infants (t=1.988; p=0.048).
