Abstract (EN)

GÜLER, M. Evaluation of nutrition related cardiovascular risk factors of women in premenopausal and post menopausal period. Başkent University, Institute of Health Science, Nutrition and Dietetic Master Degree Thesis, Ankara, 2015 This study was conducted among the all premenopausal or post menopausal female patients between 30-60 year old who was admitted to Nutrition and Diet Clinic of Ankara Hospital of Acıbadem Health Group. Personal characteristics and the some of the nutritional habits of the individuals were interrogated using a questionary. Anthropometric measurements and some biochemical parameters of tthe individuals were analyzed. Fourthy-six (47.4 %) premenopausal and 51 (52.6 %) postmenopausal totaly 97 woman participated in the study. Mean age of the participants were indicated as 43.23 ± 9.65 years (35.34 ± 5.11 years for premenopausal and 51.98 ± 4.56 yeras for postmenopausal women). According to the findings, 59 % of the post menaopausal and 40.3 % of the premenopausal women had a body mass index (BMI) of higher than ≥25. In postmenopausal women, fasting blood glucose, calcium, HDL-K, ALT, AST, hemoglobine, hematocrite, creatinine, triglyceride, urea nitrogen and TSH levels which biochemical parameters tend to be in reference intervals while total cholesterol and LDL-K levels tend to be higher than upper normal limits. In premenopausal women, biochemical findings tend to be in reference intervals. Fat consumption was as high as 42% in premenopausal women and 45% in post menopausal women. İn premenopausal women, fat consumption was positively correlated with serum triglyceride level between systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure wile negatively correlated with fasting blood glucose. In premenopausal women, saturated fatty acid and serum triglyceride was positively correlated with LDL-K, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure and negatively correlated with HDL-K.In post menopausal women, fat and saturated fatty acid consumption were positively correlated with diastolic blood pressure. Poly unsaturated fatty acid and triglyceride was positively correlated with systolic and diastolc blood pressure and negatively correlated with fasting blood glucose in premenopausal women. Omega-6 faty acid was positively correlated with systolic and diastolic blood pressure in premenopausal women. Omega-6 faty acid was negatively correlated with omega -3 and fasting blood glucose in both premenopausal and post menopausal women. Correlation coefficient of Vitamine E and diastolic blood pressure was statistically significant in both premenopausal and postmenopausal women. Vitamin B12 intake was (7.0±2.65mcg) in premenopausal women and (6.9±5.08mcg) in postmenopausal women which was higher than DRI recommendation. İn conclusion, it is dtermined that nutrition is very important to prevent cardiovascular risk for women in prememenopausal and postmenapausal period to maintain those Women's ideal body weight they should be directed to physical activity and their nutrition should be adjusted.
