Evaluation of visuald field test, optic coherence tomography and heidelberg retinal tomography in primary open angle glaucoma, normal tension glaucoma and ocular hypertension

Abstract (EN)

To assess the efficiency and correlation of Visuald Vield (VF), Heidelberg Retinal Tomography (HRT), and Optic Coherence Tomography (OCT) in Primary Open Angle Glaucoma (POAG), Normal Tension Glaucoma (NTG) and Ocular Hypertension (OHT).Fiftyfive eyes of 29 POAG patients, 32 eyes of 16 OHT patients and 26 eyes of 13 NTG patients were enrolled in the study. Detailed ophthalmological examination, VF test by Humphrey, Optic Disc (OD) and Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer (RNFL) analysis with HRT 3 and OCT were performed in all patients at least three times in every 6 months .There were 32 women and 26 men in the study. The mean age was 66,4±10 years. The mean follow up period was 22±2.2 months. Mean deviasyon (MD) and Patern Standart Deviasyon (PSD) values with VF test were higher in eyes with POAG and NTG than eyes with OHT. The difference was statistically significant (p<0.05). MD and PSD calculated by VF test were correlated with all analysis parameters except Disc Area (DA) and Height Variation Contour (HVC) by HRT 3 in POAG ve NTG groups. Also MD and PSD values were correlated with all analysis parameters except DA and Rim Area (RA) by OCT in POAG group. In NTG group, the correlation between MD values and all paremeters except DA by OCT was statistically significant. Also PSD was correlated with all paremeters except DA and RNFL thickness by OCT. Altough no correlation was detected between MD and PSD values and analysis parameters by HRT 3, only RA values by OCT was correlated with MD and PSD in OHT group. There was no statistically significant progression between first and last examinations for MD and PSD values and mean RNFL thickness calculated by OCT and HRT 3 in all groups.In this study, it is shown that VF, HRT 3 and OCT parameters are useful in diagnosis and monitoring for glaucoma. Also a general correletion between these three tests was obtained. These tests may be helpful for progression analysis in the long term follow up period of the disease.
