Abstract (EN)

In Vitro Evaluation of Physical Properties of a Propolis-Based Experimental Root Canal SealerRecently, a tendency toward using natural products instead of synthetic products is increasing in daily life. Dentistry is also following this trend. Therefore, we planned this study in order to develop an experimental root canal filling paste as a possible alternative to sealers.We tested physical characteristics of our new experimental paste containing %5, %10, %25 and %50 propolis and compared with Grossman and AH Plus paste in vitro. The microleakage was compared using a computer liquid filtration method. Film thickness, solubility, radiopacity, pH values and duration of hardening were tested according to the ISO (6876:2001) standards.We found that the microleakage of our experimental pastes were similar with Grossman paste and more than that of AH Plus. The results for the experimental paste, Grossman and AH Plus paste for fluidity, film thickness, radioopacity and duration of time were totally suitable to the ISO(6876:2011) standards. We found that the resolution of our experimental paste and the Grossman paste was more than that of AH Plus. We also determined that our the water extracts of experimental paste, Grossman paste and AH Plus had weak acidic characteristics.The findings obtained in this study with the propolis containing sealer should be supported with future studies. The experimental sealer can be considered for clinical use after supporting results are obtained in further physical and biological experiments.
