Value of BCL2 and IMP3 expressi̇on in prostate adenocarci̇noma diagnosis and grading abstract

Abstract (EN)

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men and acinar adenocarcinoma is the most frequent of all. The aim of our study is to investigate IMP3 and Bcl-2 ekspression in benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and prostat cancer (PCA) and to determine the diagnostic value of these two markers with the relationship of clinicopathological parameters. The study included 75 samples of prostate adenocarcinoma and 25 samples of benign prostatic hyperplasia selected from the archives of the Fırat University Hospital, Pathology Department Laboratory. The samples were applied IMP3 and Bcl-2 markers by immunohistochemistry and the place of these markers in differential diagnosis and differences between tumor differentiation degree was examined. IMP3 was found positive in 100% of benign prostatic hyperplasia cases, 69,3% of adenocarcinoma cases. Bcl-2 positive staining was not observed in any patients with adenocarcinoma and was observed 68% of patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia. In addition, Bcl-2 staining was observed in the basal epithelial cells. There was statistically significant difference between IMP3 and Bcl-2 staining prevalence and intensity in BPH and PCA patients (p<0,05). There was also significant difference between the degree of differentiation with the prevalence and severity of IMP3 (p<0,05). As a result; IMP3 and Bcl-2 markers are to be useful in separation of benign prostatic hyperplasia and prostate adenocarcinoma. Particularly, Bcl-2 as a basal cell marker would be useful in the distinction between BPH and PC.
