Abstract (EN)
The traditional methods for evaluating wrist and hand function following an intervention consist of measuring grip strength and assessing the range on motion, both which provide a good, objective analysis of outcome. However, these methods do not take into account other aspects related to an analysis of outcome, such as the patient's ability to carry out activities of daily living, the ability to return to previous occupations and pain. Over recent decades, patient-based instruments have been introduced to evaluate function and disability after disorders of different parts of the musculoskeletal system The PRWHE (Patient Rated Wrist/Hand Evaluation) is a self-administered outcome questionnaire, consisting of a pain and a functional scale with the latter consisting of specific function and usual function, used to assess the level of pain and disability for wrist/hand disorders. The aim of our study was to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of PRWHE scale. 166 patients having the pathologies affecting the wrist/hand joint such as distal radius fracture, distal radius-ulna fracture, scaphoid fracture, ganglion cyst, deQuervain's tenosynovitis, metacarp fracture, trigger finger, carpal tunnel syndrome and hand osteoarthritis, TFCC lesion, tendinitis, proximal phalanges fracture, Dupuytren's disease completed the Turkish version of PRWHE, DASH and SF-36. In addition to this assessment, the reliability of the questionnaire was evaluated by using test-retest in 36 patients. The test-retest stability was assessed by using the intraclass correlation coefficient. The ICCs of the pain, specific function and usual function subscales of function, function and total scores in PRWHE-T were 0.991, 0.988, 0.976, 0.988, 0.994, respectively. Reliability was investigated by internal consistency and cronbach α coefficients for PRWHE-P, PRWE-F and PRWHE-T were 0.79, 0.92 ve 0.85 respectively. To analyze validity, a factor analysis of PRWE-T and correlation coefficients between PRWHE-T, DASH-T, SF-36 were obtained. Turkish version of PRWHE has three factors different from the original version and the correlation between the PRWHE-T, DASH-T and PRWHE-T, SF-36 were statistically significant. Our results confirm that, the Turkish version of PRWHE is a reliable and valid instrument and can be used in routine clinical practice for evaluating patient based pain and disability level.
