Examination of posterior segment parameters in patients using ssri (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) group of drugs due to psychiatric disorders

Purpose: To evaluate the posterior segment parameters of patients with SSRI group antidepressant medication due to depression. Methods: This thesis is a prospective, clinical, interdisciplinary, and single center study consisting of depressed patients over 18 years of age who came to the Ophthalmology Clinic of Gaziantep University, Faculty of Medicine between February 2017 and August 2017 for control purposes.In the same period of time, volunteers who were referred to the hospital for control and who did not have any systemic diseases were selected as the control group.Those who use the drug less than 1 year later; group1, 1 year and more users; group 2 and control group; group 3 was subdivided into subgroups. All patients underwent detailed ophthalmologic examination and measurement of retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL), central foveal thickneess (CFT), and choroidal thickness (CT) using spectral domain optic coherence tomography (SD-OCT). Results: As a combination of study and control groups of the patients, 104 eyes which belong to 104 patients in total are analyzed in this thesis. The study and the groups are both composed of 52 patients who are 40 females and 12 males.The mean age, sex, corrected best visual acuity (BCVA), intraocular pressure (IOP), spherical equivalent (SE), cup / disc (C / D) ratios in the study and control groups in both subgroups, There were no significant differences in axial lengths (AXL), CFT, RNFL, and CT (p >0.05). Conclusion: There was no significant difference in posterior segment parameters in both groups.
