Examination of the role of school principals' leadership styles on alienation of psychological counselors

In this study, examination of the role of school principals' leadership styles on alienation of psychological counselors was defined as a general object. In addition, the alienation of psychological counselors was compared according to the gender, marital status, the most recently graduated school, seniority, and the grade of teaching which is assigned. For this purpose, the research was carried out with a total of 221 psychological counselors that are 181 of them female and 40 of them male, who are working in Artvin, Rize and Trabzon provinces during the academic year of 2017-2018. "Leadership Styles of School Principals' Scale", "Organizational Alienation Scale" and "Personal Information Form" prepared by the researcher were used in order to collect the data of the research. Multiple regression analysis was conducted to examine the role of school principals' leadership styles on the alienation of psychological counselors. Mann Whitney U test, Kruskal Wallis H test, t-test and ANOVA were conducted in order to determine whether the alienation of psychological counselors differ according to gender, marital status, last graduate school, seniority, and the grade of teaching which is assigned. As a result of the research, it was determined that there is a negative relationship between the alienation of psychological counselors and just the transformational leadership style from leadership styles. On the other hand, it was determined that there is no meaningful relationship between the transactional and laissez-faire leadership and the alienation of psychological counselors. Also, it was appointed that the alienation of psychological counselors differed significantly only according to the marital status and the grade of teaching which is assigned. It has been found that according to the factor of marital status, married people; and the grade of teaching which is assigned, the ones who work in high school have more alienation than the other colleagues. It has determined that the alienation of psychological counselors does not differ significantly according to sex, the most recently graduated school and seniority variables.
