Abstract (EN)
Objective: Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease which is characterized by silvery white squams settled on the sharply demarcated, erythematous papules and plaques. Although its etiology is unknown, it is thouhgt that it has hereditary predisposition to the formation and at any time in survival might be caused by various factors that trigger. In recent years it has been proposed that chronic inflammation in psoriasis causes development of metabolic and vascular disorders and studies have focused on psoriasis comorbidities accompanying. There is also metabolic syndrome in the comorbidities associated with psoriasis. In this study, retrospectively determination of the components of metabolic syndrome in patients with psoriasis was aimed. Materials and Methods: Records and automation information of Çukurova University Medicine Faculty Balcalı Hospital Dermatology and Venerology Department Clinic between years 2007-2012 about patients with psoriasis have been analysed. The data of the fasting blood glucose, taking antidiabetic treatment, systolic and diastolic blood pressure values, taking antihypertensive treatment, serum lipid levels and body mass index were collected. Findings: According to the NCEP ATP III diagnostic criteria for metabolic syndrome, 71 of 154 patients (46.1 %) showed increased blood pressure, 36 of 154 patients (23.4 %) showed elevated fasting blood glucose. 102 of 154 patients (66.2 %) showed low HDL level, 64 patients (41.6 %) showed high triglycerides level. 47 cases (30.5 %) that body mass index over 30 were revealed. In the study if body mass index is used as a criterion of obesity, acccording to the NCEP ATP III diagnostic criteria (obesity, increased blood pressure, high triglyceride level, low HDL levels, increased fasting blood glucose ) allowing three of the five criteria 52 cases (33.8 %) among 154 patients with psoriasis were revealed. Conclusion: Follow up and the treatment of patients with psoriasis should be done as a approach of multisystem disease in terms of metabolic syndrome accompanying components.
