Abstract (EN)
Psoriasis is chronic inflammatory disease characterized with erythematous scaled plaques. It is multigenic and multifactorial disease. Predisposing individuals may develop psoriasis with trauma, infections, medications and various metabolic conditions. Typical lesion is sharp-limited erythematous scaly plaque. In addition, it offers a wide range of clinical forms, including systemic symptoms such as arthritis, or widespread or localized pustules. It is clinically observed with exacerbation and recovery periods. Numerous studies have been carried out on psoriasis about pathogenesis and treatment, but neither pathogenesis can be fully understood nor provide complete cure. Psoriasis is an old disease that existed for centuries. Many pathogenesis has been revealed over time and treatment modalities have been developed for this. At the end of the twentieth century, the beginning of the twenty-first century psoriasis was defined as a disease characterized by keratinocyte hyperproliferation and dysmaturation, where T lymphocytes play a central role. However, exactly how the immune cells and keratinocytes are stimulated can be demonstrated by new studies. Aim: In this study, we aimed to investigate whether FMS-like tyrosine kinase-1 is higher in patients with psoriasis than in healthy individuals. Materials and Methods: Between June 2016 and June 2017, 51 adult patients with plaque psoriasis who applied to the Polyclinic of Skin and Venereal Diseases of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University Educational Research Hospital were included in the study. Clinical signs and symptoms of the patients were recorded. Blood samples were taken from patients and volunteers and measurements were made. FMS-like tyrosine kinase-1 (FLT-1) levels were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method in the blood of patients with psoriasis and in healthy volunteers. Psoriasis patients were divided into three clinical groups as mild, moderate and severe according to the severity index of psoriasis (PASI). SPSS 23 program was used for statistic. Results: The mean value of FLT-1 in patients with psoriasis was 23,6 ± 1,3. The FLT-1 value of healthy volunteers was 14,1 ± 0,4. FLT-1 levels of psoriasis patients and healthy volunteers were statistically significantly different (p: 0,000). FLT-1 levels were not significantly increased by psoriasis disease severity (p: 0,288). Conclusion: In conclusion, our study suggests that FMS-like tyrosine kinase-1, which is the primary endothelial growth factor (VEGF) receptor, plays a role in the pathogenesis of psoriasis. However, studies related to this topic are still limited and new and more extensive researches are needed. Key words: Psoriasis, pathogenesis, VEGF, FMS-like tyrosine kinase-1
