Abstract (EN)
Psoriasis is known as a chronic, autoimmune, inflammatory disease. Its etiopathogenesis isnot clearly explained, however, Th1-cell-mediated keratinocyte proliferation is seen inpathogenesis. But, it is shown that transition towards Th2 if the clinical situation get worse.Latest investigations determined the high levels of total IgE an ECP in psoriasis. Therefore,Th2 cytokines and mediators is believed to play a role in the pathogenesis of psoriasis. Inthis study, it is planned to investigate serum total IgE, eosinophil cationic protein (ECP) andeosinophil levels in patients with psoriasis and correlation the results of data with clinicalviolence. We examined the probable relation between psoriasis and atopy. In this prospective study, 46 patients with psoriasis who applied and 42 healthy volunteersubjects were included between the dates of March 2011 - March 2012 to the Department ofDermatovenerology in Bülent Ecevit University Hospital. 2 tubes of 5 cc venous blood weretaken from patients and healthy volunteers to investigate total IgE, ECP and eosinophillevels. Firstly, we compared the data of the patients and healthy control groups. Severity ofdisease divided into three groups according to the PASI as mild, moderate and severe. Weexamined the relation between serum total IgE , ECP, eosinophil levels and clinical featureslike gender, family history, PASI, during of the disease, PsA in patients with psoriasis. In examination with flouroenzymeimmunoassay method, total IgE levels was significantlyhigher when compared with control group (p=0.001). Serum ECP and eosinophil levels didnot differ statistically between two groups (p=0.432, p=0.630). There was no statisticallysignificant difference in serum total IgE, ECP, eosiophil levels between patients with andwithout a history of PsA (for each one p>0.05). There was no correlation between serumtotal IgE levels and ECP and eosinophils in patients with psoriasis (p>0.05). In addition, wedidn't find correlated data between the variables and disease severity according to the PASIscore and duration of illness. In contrast to psoriasis patients, healthy controls had amoderate positive correlation between ECP and eosinophil levels (r=0.48, p=0.001).This study done with a limited number of patients, reflects partially presence of Th2lymphocyte in patients with psoriasis. There is a need of more extensive studies for a betterunderstanding the role of Th2 lymphocyte in psoriasis. In addition, we suggest to focus moreon treatments that induce the production of Th2 sitokins IL-4 and IL-10 in psoriazis.Key Words: Psoriasis, total IgE, eosinophil cationic protein (ECP), eosinophil
