Abstract (EN)
Frontal Sinus Gender Determination of 3D Cranial CT Images by Radiomorfometric and Reconstruction Methods Using Radiomics Program: A Retrospective Study The use of alternative methods for gender determination in the field of forensic sciences and law is an important area of interest. Thanks to the developing technology and software as an alternative to heredity, the prevalence of 3D computed tomography device and radiomic programs developing with it in sex determination is increasing. The polymorphic and individual structure of the frontal sinus in the developmental process draws attention in gender and forensic identification studies thanks to its resistance to postmortem changes and trauma. In our study, 3D cranial computed tomography images of 565 patients aged 20-65 years who applied to Bursa Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Radiology were used. It is aimed to determine gender from the frontal sinus with the data obtained by using the features of the radiomic program. In addition, the feasibility of bimaxillary maximum distance for sex determination was tested in cases of frontal sinus agenesis. Radiomic features were extracted by automatic segmentation of the frontal sinus using the 3D Slicer program. Bimaxillary maximum distance was measured for cases with frontal sinus agenesis. In the analysis of the data according to the regression model; While the correct prediction rate was 75.4% for men and 77.0% for women, it was 76.2% in the general population. For women and men, "elongation, straightness, major axis length, maximum 2D diameter column, maximum 2D diameter row, maximum 2D diameter slice, maximum 3D diameter, mesh volume, minor axis length, sphericity, surface area, surface volume ratio, voxel volume, and There was a statistically significant difference between bimaxillary maximum distance" values (p<0.05). According to the average values, the "elongation and surface volume ratio" values of women are higher than that of men. On the other hand, men's values of "smoothness, major axis length, maximum 2D diameter column, maximum 2D diameter row, maximum 2D diameter slice, maximum 3D diameter, mesh volume, minor axis length, sphericity, surface area, voxel volume, and bimaxillary maximum distance" values were compared to women. higher than. Elongation, smoothness, mesh volume, voxel volume and bimaxillary maximum distance parameters are the variables that are effective in estimating gender (p<0.05). When the coefficients are examined, the high elongation and mesh volume values increase the probability of being a woman; higher values of "smoothness, voxel volume and bimaxillary maximum distance" increase the probability of being male. As a result, in the sex determination of the frontal sinus according to the radiomic method; The availability, applicability, reproducibility and reliability of qualified results with little data were tested. It will accelerate the studies in the field of Forensic Radiology thanks to the radiomic features of the frontal sinus, sex determination and extra feature extraction.
