Rahmî Efendi and his work al-`İkdu'n-Nâmi 'ale'l-Câmî

This study is about the life of Rahmî Efendi who is one of the scholars of the last period of the Ottoman Empire and his work al-`İkdu?n-Nâmi `ala?l-Câmî is consist of introduction and two chapters.As is it known this book is in fact one of the commentaries on the work al-Fawa?id al-Diya?iyya which was written on the interpretation of al-Kafiya. For this reason, we have provided a brief information about the author Ibn al-Hagib and his book al-Kafiya and about the commentator al-Gami and his study titled al-Fawa?id al-Diya?iyya.İn the first chapter, the commentator Rahmî Efendi?s life time, politically, economically and culturally has been thoroughly studied. Later on, that period?s educational institutions? Arabic language teaching has been explained. Followed by the author?s life, his work and his academic contributions. For first time a systematic research about the author and his work has been approached by us.İn the second chapter, the content of al-`İkdu?n-Nâmî `ala?l-Câmî has been analyzed in terms of content, method, style and resource. Also a thorough data has been provided about Arabic language and its eloquence.For a long time, such books have been taught at Madrasahs and determining their contemporary impact is crucial.
