Abstract (EN)

Objective: This study aims to explore the relationship between health attitudes/ behaviours of older adults with their life circumstances; to propose a preventive healthcare service model for older adults based on the Life Situation Thesis (LST) and Theory of Planned Action (TPB). Method: In this descriptive, cross-sectional, and exploratory study, data collected from 400 (60+ aged) Antalya Refreshment University's students by using a questionnaire were analysed by using descriptive, causality and relationship analysing test methods. Results: In the model named "YD-PET-KSHM for the Elderly" created within the scope of the thesis, the conceptual framework of YDT dimensions and PET structures were determined. The determinants of LST are financial resources, housing conditions, health, social, cultural, vocational, education, training, care, access to support. From the TPB point of view, it was found that that the behavioural attitudes (sleeping, medication-usage, social relationships/ activities, brain/mental training, harmful substance use, nature/environment relations), subjective norms perceived (from religious/spiritual communities, healthcare professionals, family members, educators, community, society, and perception of care insurance) and perceived behaviour control (regular physical activity, healthy eating, sleep and stress management, adapting physical limitations into activities, receiving support from family/neighbourhood) determines the older adults' intentions and behaviours regarding health prevention. Besides, older people who intend to "engage in regular physical/social activity, make health checks, preserve their mental abilities/functions" are expected to take positive actions regarding the behaviours on "exercise, diet, sleep and stress management, mental/ social activities" Conclusion: "YD-PET-KSHM for older adults" is a model developed in scope of the study, which determines the preventive health intentions behaviours of older adults based on the TPB structures and LST dimensions. The model is proposed to be used by older adults, Gerontology and other related scientific disciplines and organizations and institutions interested with results of the study.
