Abstract (EN)

As the largest organ of our body skin is a protective barrier. Burn is one of the most common causes the deterioration of skin integrity. Many research continues to burn treatment. Those agents used for treatment of vegetable content is noteworthy. Ankaferd used intentionally to control bleeding. It has also antimicrobial effect as an agent of vegetable content. From this point of view we planned comparing the Ankaferd which effects of burn injuries and 0,9% NaCl which effects of placebo and wound healing. Experimental work was carried out on a total of 24 rats. All rats were divided ito for groups as named control, burn control, Ankaferd, and physiological saline solution (normal saline). 2nd degree burns were created on the subjects body surface by 4 pieces of 2x1 cm metal plate. At intervals of 0, 7, 14, and 21 days we conducted a biopsy on the burn field of rats. After the test a macroscopic and histological findings was considered. In the evaluation of fibroblast increase, no significant difference was found between the Ankaferd group, and the control burn and serum physiologic groups. In the evaluation of congestion, when the degree of change in histopathological data between day 0 and day 7 were investigated, a significant difference was observed between the Ankaferd and the control burn group. On the 7th day, a slight increase in congestion was identified in the Ankaferd group, whereas congestion increased in the control burn group to a statistically significant degree. When level of increase in inflammatory cells was evaluated in terms of the changes in histopathological data between days 0–7 and days 0–21, a significant difference was found between the Ankaferd and the control burn group. Inflammatory cells saw a slight increase on the 7th day in the Ankaferd group, while increasing severely in the control burn group to a statistically significant degree. When epithelization was evaluated for changes in histopathological data, a significant difference was observed between the control burn group, and the isotonic saline and Ankaferd groups between days 0–7 and days 0–21. Epithelization increased considerably on the 7th day in the Ankaferd group, whereas epithelization increased only moderately in the isotonic saline group. Epithelization did not increase in the control burn group on the 7th day. The differences between the groups were found to be statistically significant. Ankaferd minimized congestion and inflammatory cell proliferation, and increased epithelization when compared to the control burn group, leading to an acceleration of the wound healing process; however, Ankaferd was not prominently superior to serum physiologic in the wound healing process. When epithelization was taken into account, Ankaferd was found to be superior to the control burn and serum physiologic groups. Keywords: Burn, Wound Healing, Epithelialization, Ankaferd
