Abstract (EN)

Cerebral ischemia is the third leading cause of death after cancer and cardiovascular diseases in the developed societies. In recent years, one of the most important treatment protocols applied in stroke treatment is the neuroprotective treatment, which limits cell damage occurring within the area of infarct. The carvacrol, which has an anti-inflammatory effect, shows neuroprotective activity in cerebral tissue with an infarct, but this effect is not sufficiently elucidated at the molecular level.The aim of our study was to investigate the effects of carvacrol on plasma TBARS, GSH, SOD, CAT, GPx, IL-1 BETA, IL-4 and TNF-ALPHA levels in the cerebral tissue, by creating global ischemia in the laboratory conditions. Four groups, each containing ten Wistar albino rats, were formed.Following anesthesia and analgesia, bilateral carotis cominis arteries were clamped with aneurysm clips for 15 min in the first two groups of rats. In the first group of ischemia (IR + carvacrol group), 50 mg / kg / day of carvacrol was given for 15 days. In other ischemic group (IR group), only CMV was administered as a dose of 50 mg / kg / day, in which carvacrol was dissolved. In the other two groups without ischemia, only carotis dissections were created and sutured again. In the first of these groups(carvacrol group), 50 mg / kg / day of carvacrol was given for 15 days and in the second group (control group) without ischemia only CMV was administered as a 50 mg / kg / day dose for 15 days. At the end of the 15th day after all these treatments, the plasma of all these groups was received and the brain tissues were removed. In rats, which went through a plasma examination, the positive effects of carvacrol on the mentioned parameters and the parameters unaffected by carvacrol were presented in the tables and the graphs. At the end of this study, while the positive effects of carvacrol on the non-ischemic cerebral tissue were not statistically significant, the positive effects on the ischemic cerebral tissue were found as significant.
