Effect of ozone gas upon viability of flap in the rats, experimental

The main purpose of this study is to reveal that ozone gas effect upon flap viability those flaps are aimed reconstruction and determine which type of application is useful for this issue. In the literature, there are many studies regarding to flap viability and wound healing: In these studies, various agents have been used. Antioxidant, immunomodulatory and reperfusion efficacy of ozone gas has been tried in many studies and successful results have been obtained. In the literature, a study investigating the effect of ozone gas upon flap viability is not available. In this study, especially, antioxidant and reperfusion effects of ozone gas have been thought to contribute positively to flap viability. Totally 40 wistar kind, male gender rat were included in the experiment and rats were divided randomly into 4 groups consisting equal number of rats. Group 1(n=10): Any pharmacological agent is not used after operation. After operation rats sacrified in the seventh day and the studies are avaluated. Group 2(n=10): Vegetable oil group. In postoperative term, vegetable oil impregnated gauzes were used for dressing during the following 7 days. At the end of the week, rats sacrified Group 3(n=10): Vegetable oil with ozone peroxide group. In postoperative term, vegetable oil with ozone peroxide impregnated gauzes were used for dressing during the fallowing 7 days. At the end of the week, rats sacrified Group 4(n=10): Hemoozonetheraphy group. Hemoozonetheraphy applied once a day rectally for 7 days, postoperatively, Rats were sacrificed at the end of a week. After rats were killed in postoperative 7th day, they were assesed macroscopically and histopathologically. When living areas of flaps were measured, it was seen that substantive necrosis proportion was less in group 4 than the other three groups. While group1 has less survival ratios, better survival area ratios have been seen in group 2 and group 3 compared with group 1, but it was not significant amoung group 2 and 3. Once histopathologic scores evaluated, any statistical significance has not been able to find between the groups. Finally, It was found that the antioxidant and reperfusion effects of ozone gas used in the study affected the viability of the flap positively. It was not found differences between vegetable oil and vegetable oil with ozone peroxide groups in terms of effect to the flap viability. Greatest benefit ratio were found in the hemoozonetheraphy application. Key words: Ozone gas, ozone vegetable oil, hemoozonetheraphy, flap, flap viability, flap perfusion
