Effects of Levosimendan on rats' intestinal ischemia reperusion injury

Purpose: Full or semi arterial obstruction of gut' s blood flow produces intestinalischemia and reperfusion occurs by reinstation of blood flow. Intestinal ischemiareperfusion (IIR) injury can cause multi organ failure and death. The purpose of thisstudy is to search the effects of levosimendan on IIR injury.Material and Method: After taking ethic commitee agreement from D.E.U.T.F. 250-300g weighted 21 male Albino Wistar rat divided into 3 groups (n=7). Laparatomy wasapplied to all groups and superior mesenteric artery (SMA) was detected. Nothing elsewas applied to sham group. In IIR group SMA was clemped for 60 min. and 120 min.reperfusion period was applied. In IIR+Levosimendan (IIR+L) group after 12 ?g/kg 10min. levosimendan loading dose, SMA was clemped for 60 min ischemia time with 0,2?g/kg/h infusion after than infusion was stopped and for reperfusion 120 min werewaited. After 120 min rats were sacrified and for biochemical (tissue MPO and TBARS)and histopathology researchs ileum tissue samples were taken. p< 0,05 was acceptedas significant.Results: Tissue MPO and TBARS levels are higher in IIR group compared with shamand IIR+L group and no difference was found sham and IIR+L groups. In sham groupchiu score was lower than IIR and IIR+L group. In IIR group chiu score was significantlyhigher than IIR+L group.Discussion: In present study, levosimendan decreased tissue damage in experimentalIIR model. The effects of levosimendan need more detailed experimental studies.Key words: Intestinal ischemia, reperfusion injury, levosimendan.
