Determining the opinions of guidance teachers about the problems they face in school

The purpose of this study is to identify the problems faced by guidance teachers in their professions and to suggest solutions to resolve these problems. Research data were obtained by face-to-face and distance interviews with the guidance teachers working in kindergarten, primary and secondary schools. The study group of the study has 31 guidance teachers selected by easy-to-reach sampling method. Case study, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the research. In the interview form, there are five open-ended questions which are whether they are experiencing problems due to the fact that school counselling services are not given the value and adherence to the guidance service, entering into classes from other teachers in the school, finding a separate working environment, the degree to which they are able to apply their knowledge from university to the problems they encounter at school, day-to-day impact of problems encountered in school, whether the guidance service is the only solution to the problems in the school. The questions directed to the teachers were recorded. The data obtained by examining the records were analyzed by means of descriptive analysis. When the findings obtained from the research are examined, it was determined that guidance teachers had various problems in the provision of appropriate space for interviewing and procurement of necessary equipment for the school administration. In addition, guidance teachers have indicated that school administrators and teachers are lacking in guidance. Based on this findings, it has been determined that in order to solve the problems of guidance teachers, principals, teachers and parents should be informed about guidance services and to gain the common guidance understanding.
