Transform of bosphorus mansions into hotel as part of reconstruction applications

Reconstruction and refunctioning are methods of using historical structures to protect them. These applications are concerned for protecting Bosphorus Mansions in İstanbul as well as for many historical structures. The purpose of this study is to investigate the conversion of Bosphorus Mansions into hotels in terms of reconstruction applications and to determine impacts on interior. Handling problems arising from this within the scope of protection is the goal of this study. In this context, it is comparatively analyzed that spatial structures of these mansions after reconstruction and the original architecture of the two selected Bosphorus Mansions are examined. The study consists of six chapters. The purpose of this study, content and the method information is in the first part. In "The Concept of Conservation on Historical Structures" part protection methods are stated, "refunctioning" and "reconstruction" concepts are examined in subtitles. "Conservation problems in Historical Structures" and "Laws and Regulations about Conservation" are subtitles of the second part. In the third part under "Accommodation Structers" title conceptual researches and evaluation of hotels in terms of spatial. In the fourth part the architecture, history and functional analysis of Istanbul Bosphorus Mansions are made. In the fifth part, the subject of the study is analyzed with examples; reconstruction processes of Debreli İsmail Paşa Mansion and Rasim Paşa Mansions are examined. In this part, usage of example structures as hotel and mansion is investigated in terms of spatial and comparatively. In the last part of the study, Bosphorus Mansions that are reconstructed and refunctioned as hotels, are examined with examples and it is tried to make determinations about these processes.
