Özet (EN)
Staphylococcus aureus is an opportunistic bacterium that infects humans and causes a wide range of symptoms. S. aureus ability to form biofilms is regarded as a serious threat to public health. The purpose of this study was to investigate S. aureus capacity to produce biofilms and to detect biofilm coding gene fnbA using PCR technique in order to control the infections caused by biofilm forming multi-drug resistant (MDR) S. aureus. A total of 150 clinical samples of wound swab, urine and burn swab were collected in this study. The results revealed that 84 Staphylococcus were isolated in this work, 36 of them were S. aureus, while the others were S. epidermidis. Out of 36 S. aureus isolates 21 (58.33%) were MDR. These MDR isolates have capacity to form biofilms, when tested by two assays: congo red agar and microtiter plate assay. The molecular analysis of the fnbA gene revealed that 76.19% of the isolates carried the fnbA gene. The results showed that the fnbA gene may be common in local S. aureus isolates capable of forming biofilms.
