Investigation of betatrophin and endotrophin levels in renal cell carcinoma tissues

Abstract (EN)

Objective: Renal cell carcinomas (RCC) are a type of cancer originating from kidney cells with a wide variety of morphological structures, which are observed in 2-3% frequency. It is the most common type of cancer among kidney tumors and the number of patients is increasing worldwide. Approximately 20% of patients with RCC present with advanced disease at the time of diagnosis. In this study, to investigate the determination of betatrophin and endotrophin levels in RCC tissue sections. Material and Method: Between January 2010 and April 2019, 125 tumor tissue sections from the nephrectomy materials and 30 solid tissue preparations were obtained from the nephrectomy materials and control group from the solid region of the nephrectomy material. Expression of endotrophin and betatrophin by immunohistochemical method were evaluated in terms of prevalence and severity of staining. Betatrophin and endotrophin levels in renal tissue supernatants of RCC were studied by ELISA method. The determined expression levels and biochemical measurements were compared between the groups determined in terms of histological subtype, age, tumor diameter, necrosis, vascular invasion, perineural and perirenal adipose tissue invasions. Relationships between the degree of expression and biochemical tissue level values and the clinicopathological features of the cases were evaluated statistically in 95% confidence interval and p <0.05 statistical significance. Compared to the control group, despite the higher levels of tissue betatrophin and endotrophin in chromophobe and papillary RCC, there was no statistically significant difference. Tissue betatrophin and endotrophin levels were significantly higher in clear cell RCC. As Fuhrman grade progressed in the clear cell RHK group, an increase in betatrophin endothelial cell expression levels was observed. While intense endotrophin expression was detected in the tissues belonging to the clear cell RCC group compared to other histological types, endotrophin expression increased as the Fuhrman grade increased in clear cell RCC tissues. Conclusion: Endotrophin can be used as a prognostic marker in clear cell RHK and as a target molecule in therapy. Key words: Renal cell carcinom, endotrophin, betatrophin
