Kadın yazarlar tarafından yazılan çağdaş İspanyol romanında kadın temsili / The representation of the woman in contemporary Spanish novel written by women

This study aims to analyze the construction and representation of the female subject in contemporary Spanish novel written by female authors starting from 1980's, which is the period of the transition to democracy in Spain, up to today, in the light of poststructuralist feminist literary criticism. To achieve this, four novels, which are thought to represent the period they belong to, have been chosen for each decade as of the transition. The novels to be analyzed are Las edades de Lulú by Almudena Grandes, Beatriz y los cuerpos celestes by Lucía Etxebarria, Algo tan parecido al amor by Carmen Amoraga and La carne by Rosa Montero, respectively. The analysis focuses on the main female characters, namely, Lulú; Beatriz; Ana, Amparo and Silvana; Soledad, in the respective order of the novels. The objective of this investigation is to find out through these characters, thematically and formally, to what extent the language used in these novels corresponds to and/or differs from constructs of woman and gender discourse suggested by the poststructuralist feminist theory. The texts to be analyzed in this study are associated with the cultural, political and literary background of Spain as of the 80's, the postfranquist period, up to present. As a consequence, it is seen that it is not possible for the woman to construct herself as a female subject since the masculine, valued in masculine/feminine dichotomy on which the Western thought is based, is dominant in language as well; she is compelled to construct herself through language as the man's other. However, it is possible to subvert the masculine language. The texts in question draw attention to the absence and necessity of a language that enables the representation of the female subject. Key Words: Contemporary Spanish Novel, Female Subject, Gender, Female Author, Poststructuralist Feminist Criticism El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo analizar la representación y la construcción de la mujer como sujeto en la novela contemporánea española escrita por mujeres desde los años 80, que es la época de la transición a la democracia, hasta la actualidad, a la luz de la crítica literaria feminista posestructuralista. Para lograrlo, se han elegido cuatro novelas, una por cada década a partir de la Transición, que se supone que representan la época a la que pertenecen. Las obras del análisis son Las edades de Lulú de Almudena Grandes, Beatriz y los cuerpos celestes de Lucía Etxebarria, Algo tan parecido al amor de Carmen Amoraga y La carne de Rosa Montero, respectivamente. El análisis se centra en las protagonistas: Lulú en la primera, Beatriz en la segunda; Ana, Amparo y Silvana en la tercera y Soledad en la cuarta. El objetivo de esta investigación es descubrir, a nivel temático y formal, en qué medida se corresponde y/o difiere el lenguaje utilizado en las novelas en cuestión de la construcción del sujeto femenino y del discurso de género sugeridos por la teoría feminista posestructuralista. Los textos que se analizan en este trabajo se relacionan con el fondo cultural, político y literario de España desde la época posfranquista de los 80 hasta la actualidad. Como consecuencia, teniendo en cuenta que en el sistema de pensamiento occidental y en la dicotomía masculino/femenino se valora lo masculino y que lo masculino también es lo dominante en el lenguaje, se observa en estas novelas lo siguiente: que no es posible para la mujer construirse como un sujeto femenino; que la mujer está abocada a construirse como el otro del hombre; que es posible, sin embargo, subvertir el lenguaje masculino; que los textos en cuestión reclaman la atención sobre la ausencia y la necesidad de un lenguaje que haga posible la representación del sujeto femenino.
