Woman in Reşat Nuri Güntekin's novels

Novel is one of the important genres affecting daily life and affected by life in Turkish literature. A novel by the author involves the impression of life and it impresses on society in terms of its readers. The woman as an individual also takes place as a heroine in literary works and is presented from various perspectives. Reşat Nuri Güntekin is one of the writers who influenced society by creating works in different genres after the foundation of the Turkish Republic. In Reşat Nuri Güntekin's novels, female characters are present in different places, times, and perspectives; also, society's view of women, as well as the place of women in society, is emphasized in these works. Güntekin, who is also a teacher and an inspector, gives special importance to teachers among women working in different professions and worked on the theme of women within the scope of educated women and those who are deprived of education. With the help of Reşat Nuri Güntekin's many visits to Anatolia and his observant personality, women are represented in his novels from a rather realistic point of view. Güntekin, who offers his readers different experiences from different parts of society, does not approach women from a feminist perspective, so to speak: While showing women as victims from time to time, he approaches this issue objectively by not avoiding criticizing them at times. The aim of this study is to analyze the theme of women in the novels based on Güntekin's 19 published novels and to determine the type of woman the author wants to create by revealing the society and the author's perspective on women in the context of novels. In the study, the text-based method was used by giving examples from the novels, and the findings about the women in the novels are stated in the conclusion.
